Wanting to get the best possible information, I sought the advice of Anthropic’s Claude.ai.

This was something so obvious, but that I had never considered.

Iceland is on the bucket list of many photographers, but can an AI chatbot improve and help streamline your trip planning?

I want you to think about the needs of a landscape or travel photographer?"

The list of considerations that I got back was comprehensive; Claude had seemingly thought of everything.

That wasnt the end, of course Claude.ai explained its findings with 26 different reasons.

The ultimate salesman: AI gives advice on how AI can help photographers

However, I wasnt satisfied.

I wanted anexactdate and time for the year 2025.

It also mentioned that the Pre-weekend timing means fewer early-morning photographers, but this wasnt quite right.

Claude AI suggested some dates that would provide the best times of year for ice formations, such as this one, at Jökulsarlon

First off, August 23 next year is a Saturday, so it cant be pre-weekend.

It also said that sunrise would be at 5:39am, which is close, but is actually 5:21am.

This also means the car park will quiet.

Claude AI vs ChatGPT

For balance, I also did the same experiment withChatGPT.

I then asked it for an itinerary, which you might see at the end of this article.

Especially as you could train AI to know your preferences for weather, lighting and locations.

ChatGPT produced a different day to go and take photos, but for similar reasons. However, it didn’t factor in as many of the other non-photography factors as Claude AI did

Planning a photography trip will never be the same again.
