AWS has expanded its WorkSpaces desktop-as-a-service offering with the introduction of two new workstation-grade instance types.
The company says these new instances will provide its customers with powerful cloud desktops for resource-intensive Windows workloads.
Both include a 175GB root volume and 100GB for user file storage.
Workstations need not be expensive or bulky.
The Elite 600 G9 for example costs only $999.99 has a 16-core CPU and 64GB of RAM.
The Lenovo ThinkCentre M70q mini workstation is even smaller and more powerful than the Elite 600 G9.
It features a more recent Intel CPU and is more than a match for AWS’s GeneralPurpose.4xlarge.
The GeneralPurpose.8xlarge instance is AWSs first to offer 32 vCPUs but its not cheap.
Hourly rates of $4.56 and $2.28 are also available for an additional $19 monthly fee.
Additionally, users will obviously still require a separate machine to access these cloud desktops.
